Generals Retain Coaching Staff for 2008

Petersburg, VA – The Generals have announced that the 2007 head coach Dave Carfley and assistant coach Ryan Leary will be teaming up once again for the 2008 season.

Dave Carfley will be suiting up again in the Petersburg pinstripes as the head coach for the 2008 season. Prior to serving as the head coach for the Generals, Carfley was an assistant coach for the Wilmington Sharks of the CPL in 2006. Before joining the CPL, he coached in the Clark Griffith League with the Reston Hawks. Carfley serves an assistant coach at California University at Pennsylvania where he is currently finishing up his Master’s Degree.

Ryan Leary will also be rejoining the 2008 Petersburg Generals coaching staff serving as the pitching coach. Leary is no stranger to the organization having served as an intern coach for the 2006 season and also served as the Generals pitching coach under Dave Carfley for the 2007 season. Coach Leary, a 2007 graduate of Chowan University, was a four-letter winner for the Hawks where Ryan saw limited time at first base then became a pitcher.

The 2007 Petersburg Generals finished up the season with a 22-31 record under Carfley and Leary. The 2007 Generals came up a few games shy of making the play-offs for the Pettit Cup. Having both coaches back for the 2008 season will be a bonus for the Petersburg Generals and also the coaches who worked well together.

The Petersburg Generals are a member of the Coastal Plain League (CPL), the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 12th anniversary season, the CPL is the largest summer league in the country, featuring 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL is certified by Major League Baseball and gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
