2004 Game Summary
For the third straight year, the North All-Stars have defeated the South All-Stars in the East Coast Bowl game. A late fourth quarter interception return by Richard Rodgers (NC Central) sealed the deal for the North team. The North All-Stars got great contributions from Jeff Dumm (Waynesburg) and Tyreak Saviour (Widener) offensively and Alan Krutulis (West Virginia Wesleyan) defensively.
North quarterback Jeff Dumm (Waynesburg) got the offense motivated early connecting on 6 out of 7 passes for 67 yards and a 3-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Neupauer (Millersville) on their first drive of the game. After the North defense forced the South offense three and out, Jeff Dumm quickly went to work with his favorite receiver of the day, Tyreak Saviour (Widener). Saviour caught 2 passes on that drive including a 23 yard touchdown pass and finished with 7 catches for 106 yards. With time running down in the first half, Tony Colston (Tusculum) guided the South All-Stars to their only scoring drive of the game. Colston found Daryl Bright (Fayetteville State) 3 times on that drive and Brandon Free (Winston-Salem State) twice, including a 15-yard touchdown strike.
The second half consisted primarily of a back and forth battle between defenses. Rashaad Jackson single-handedly stymied many drives with his East Coast Bowl record 4 -sack performance. With the South driving late to tie the score, Richard Rodgers stepped in front of a Colston pass and returned it 59 yards for a touchdown and the icing on the cake. East Coast Bowl Vice-President Jeremy Toombs stated, “
The talent level in this year’s game was far and away the best yet. With the Division II and III set-up, small school players get a chance to showcase their ability to professional scouts. In just the fourth year the game has grown into quite an event and we look to branch out to the Mid-west for next year’s game.”
