About
the CPL
The Coastal Plain League is a summer
college baseball league, which began play in 1997. Providing top-notch
instruction and playing conditions, the CPL offers a premier developmental
environment for college players hoping to hone their skills and display
their talents during the summer. In 1999, the CPL received official
certification from the Major League Baseball.
Jeff Bagwell, Frank Thomas, Mo Vaughn,
and Charles Nagy are just a few of the scores of current major leaguers
who played college summer baseball on their way to a pro career.
Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors
are eligible to play. Coaches from the top programs in the Southeast
and across the country lead their teams through a challenging schedule
from late May to August.
As a top-quality developmental league,
the CPL uses wooden bats exclusively, giving our players a head start
on the transition to professional baseball. Many former college players
have cited a summer in a wood-bat league as a key to improved play
in their final collegiate seasons and an advantage early in their
pro careers.
Playing exclusively in the Carolinas
and Virginia, the league utilizes several former minor league stadiums
as well as first-class municipal facilities in the following cities:
Asheboro, Edenton, Fayetteville, Florence (SC), Gastonia, Hampton
(VA), Manteo (Outer Banks), Martinsville (VA), New Bern, Petersburg
(VA), Spartanburg, Thomasville, Wilmington, and Wilson.
The CPL allows college players and coaches
from the Southeast to play closer to home, while offering talented
players from across the country the opportunity to experience the
hospitality and ideal baseball weather of the southeast.
