Generals Encourage Fans to Give Back

PETERSBURG, VA -- The Petersburg Generals will be having several nights this summer dedicated to charitable organizations.

Monday, June 9, will be C.A.R.E.S. night at the Petersburg Sports Complex. This night will benefit Crisis Assistance Response Emergency Services, or C.A.R.E.S. This organization provides shelter and assistance to women and children in need in the Petersburg area.

The Generals will also be hosting a night for Pathways on Wednesday, July 16. Pathways is a community development organization aimed at assisting young adults between the ages of 15-24. The program provides positive experience for its participants through hands-on work programs.

The Goodwill of Central Virginia will also benefit from having a night with the Petersburg Generals. Goodwill Industries aims to help individuals who face obstacles to employment, such as lack of experience, illiteracy and language barriers. Goodwill Night at the Petersburg Sports Complex is Monday, July 7.

The Generals will also have an American Cancer Society Night in conjunction with a local Relay for Life team. The date is to be determined, but fans will be able to learn more about the Cancer Society, as well as find out ways to help.

“For any organization that will benefit from specific items, any fan bringing in an item for donation will be admitted to the game for just one dollar, so everybody benefits from giving to these great organizations,” stated Petersburg Generals president, Dr. Larry Toombs.

These organizations are all based in Petersburg, and are working directly with the Generals to plan educational and fun nights for fans this summer. Fans can bring items for these charities-such as school supplies, paper products and gently used clothing-and pay a discounted admission price.

The Generals always welcome opportunities to work with nonprofit organizations.
