Birds of a Feather Flock to Petersburg

            PETERSBURG, VAThe Petersburg Generals have announced the signing of two Franklin Pierce Ravens to the 2008 roster.

            Franklin Pierce is a NCAA Division II program in Rindge, N.H.  The Ravens are a member of the Northeast – 10 Conference that uses wood bats during conference play.  Franklin Pierce and the Generals have had a good relationship over the years with Mike Chambers (’05), Elliot Shea (’05), and Vinny Pennell (’06).     

            Randy Bernosky is a 6-2, 250-pound junior first baseman from Port Huron, Mich.  Prior to attending Franklin Pierce, Bernosky played at Waubonsee CC.  Currently for the Ravens, Bernosky has played in 26 games and started in 15 games while having a batting average of .286 with seven doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBIs.

            Heath Wasylow is a 6-1, 190-pound sophomore right-handed pitcher who resides in Rehoboth, Mass.  This Raven right-hander has made 13 appearances and three starts with one of his starts being a complete game.  Wasylow currently has an ERA of 2.45 with two wins and one loss while pitching 29.1 innings and striking out 19 batters.  Opposing batters are hitting .271 against Wasylow. 

            “Having Wasylow and Bernosky is a big asset to our roster.  These players are used to playing with and pitching against wood bats all season for their college.  By them being accustom to this caliber of play with wood bat will lead to success in this league” assistant coach Ryan Leary said.
