Two Setters Settling in Petersburg

            Petersburg, VA – The Petersburg Generals have announced that two Pace University Setters will be settling down in Petersburg for the summer.

      MacKenzie King, 6-3, 195, is a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Blairstown, NJ. As a freshman in 2007, King finished up with a solid year on the mound.  The RHP had a 1.41 ERA, with a record of five wins and two losses.  Making 16 appearances and having two saves, King pitched 32 innings, striking out 43 batters with an opposing batting average of .193.

     Frank Luongo, 6-2, 240, is also a sophomore right-handed pitcher for the Setters.  He is from West Harrison, NY.  Luongo also had a good freshman season for Pace University in 2007, making 16 appearances with a 0-1 record and finishing with a 2.77 ERA.  This reliever threw 26 innings with 15 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .225 batting average.

     “Both pitchers had very good freshman seasons at Pace.  Pace has a great program with very talented players.  We feel these two pitchers are going to give us great depth on the pitching staff this season.  Both guys have experience pitching against wood bats,” said Assistant Coach Ryan Leary.  “We will be able to see King and Luongo pitch on our field when Pace hosts St. Thomas Aquinas the first weekend in March.”

     Generals’ fans will be able to purchase their season tickets starting Friday, February 1, 2008.  The Generals have 29 home games this season, with one of those being an exhibition game against Catawba Valley Stars, from the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League.  The 2008 season is the ninth season in the Coastal Plain League for the Generals.  The Petersburg Sports Complex is also adding a carnival midway to its facilities.
