Generals Sign Golden Ram and Pioneer

Petersburg, VA – The Petersburg Generals have announced the addition of two athletes to the 2007 summer roster.

Mitch Kuczek, 5-10 190, is a left-handed hitting outfielder from Division III Transylvania University (KY). He is a big reason why the Pioneers are having a successful year, currently 18-8. On the year he leads the Pioneers in most offensive categories, including: average (.468), hits (44), runs (34), doubles (8), triples (3) and RBI (39). Kuczek, a junior from Loveland, OH, also adds an element of speed to any lineup as he has swiped 15 of 16 bases this year.

Dave Slusser, 6-2 200, is a right-handed pitcher from Division II West Chester University (PA). Slusser, a sophomore from Carlisle, PA, has proven to be the ace for the Golden Rams this season. Coming off an All-PSAC freshman year, Slusser is 2-1 is 8 games for the 20-11 Golden Rams. In 5 starts, Slusser has a 3.45 earned run average and in 31 innings pitched he has walked 8 with 23 strikeouts.

The Petersburg Generals are a member of the Coastal Plain League (CPL), the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Entering its 11th season, the CPL is the largest summer league in the country, featuring 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL is certified by Major League Baseball and gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The Petersburg Generals open their 2007 home schedule Thursday, May 31st against Peninsula.
