Generals Begin to Build 2006 Roster Generals will rely on veteran pitching to return to post-season form Petersburg, VA – The Petersburg Generals have secured the return of Generals All-star Earl Oakes, as well as one of the more successful pitchers from last season, BJ Hagen. Earl Oakes, 6-3 230, is a junior from Pace University and is no stranger to the Generals uniform. Oakes will report to Petersburg, VA for his third summer and General fans will welcome the All-star closer with open arms. Oakes finished last summer with a team-high 23 appearances, including 2 clutch starts to help secure a playoff spot. He was 2-0 with a 2.06 ERA and was among the league leaders in saves with 11. Earl Oakes and the Pace University Setters will be hosting Bloomfield University at the Petersburg Sports Complex on March 4th and 5th. BJ Hagen, 6-2 185, is a sophomore from UNC Charlotte and adds local flavor to the team being from Richmond, VA. He was arguably one of the best pitchers to don the General uniform last year posting a team-high 6 wins to only 1 loss. He dominated North Division hitters with a wide variety of pitches. He used a sneaky fastball to setup batters with his above average curveball. The Petersburg Generals are a member of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League (CPL), a premier wood-bat league sanctioned by Major League Baseball. The CPL features 15 teams in 3 states (NC, SC, VA) and is now entering its 10th season. The Petersburg Generals open their home schedule on Thursday, June 1st versus Peninsula.
